How the GRE Revised test Score Scaling works?

Three scores are reported on the GRE® revised General Test:
  • a Verbal Reasoning score reported on a 130 – 170 score scale, in 1-point increments
  • a Quantitative Reasoning score reported on a 130 – 170 score scale, in 1-point increments
  • an Analytical Writing score reported on a 0 – 6 score scale, in half-point increments
Any section in which you answer no questions at all will be reported as a No Score (NS).

 For the Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning, the reported scores are based on the number of correct responses to all the questions included in the operational sections of the measure.
  • Understanding the GRE Revised Test Design

For Verbal and Quantitative Reasoning:

The Verbal Reasoning and Quantitative Reasoning measures are section-level adaptive. This means the computer selects the second section based on your performance on the first section. Within each section, all questions contribute equally to the final score. For each of the two measures, a raw score is computed. The raw score is the number of questions you answered correctly.
  • How does GRE Score and Profile affects your acceptance and Scholarship?

For Analytical Writing Section:

For the Analytical Writing section, each essay receives a score from two trained readers, using a six-point holistic scale. The final scores on the two essays are averaged and rounded to the nearest half-point interval on the 0–6 score scale. A single score is reported for the Analytical Writing measure.

 The primary emphasis in scoring the Analytical Writing section is on your critical thinking and analytical writing skills rather than on grammar and mechanics.

Status: Approved

 Had my interview at 9:15 am. Reached the consulate at 8:30. The weather was great for this time of the year, cool temperature. No sweating like a pig which I do. Waited in a long queue outside for about 30 mins. I was going around asking what visa they were applying for, and found I was the only F1 applicant. People were really tensed and didn't seem to like me asking around, so I stopped talking.
Went inside and waited at the lounge.
My token no. was called, and entered the building. There was again a queue beside which were the seats. I confidently proceeded to the chairs and sat down. A young woman came running to me and started shouting, "What on earth do you think you are doing?" I replied,"Sitting, anything wrong?" "Can't you read the signs?", she said.
I saw a sign "Please wait here to be called". There was a fat gentleman in front of me blocking the sign, so it was not my fault really. I just apologized and went back to the queue.
The documents were verified and after some more waiting, I was called for the interview.
The VO was young man in his 30's.

 Me: Good Morning Sir! How are you?
VO: Never been better. Please pass me the documents.

 He took my finger prints, all the while typing voraciously.

 VO: So where did you graduate from?
ME:Told

 VO: Is it in Kolkata?
Me: Yeah, pretty close to where I stay.

 VO: Oh, you certainly are a lucky guy.
Me: All smiles......

 VO: How did you come to know about RIT?
Me: Well, I searching for good indutrial engineering programs, and RIT came up with that search. Also I was a member of USIEF, they suggested me about RIT. After I visited the department website, I found the courses and the lab facilities rather interesting.

VO: And they're paying you a lot of money, that helps isn't it?
Me: Definitely!

 VO: Alright, you can go now and celebrate.
Me: Perplexed.....Sorry Sir, I beg your pardon.

 VO: I said go celebrate, your Visa is approved!
Me: Thanks you so much Sir!

 I rushed the hell out of the place!

 Tips: Wear something comfortable, it is long wait.
It was a cake walk, lasted about 30 seconds. I was cool and calm all the while. Share this with your friends.

Understanding the GRE Revised Test Design

A couple of students asked few general questions on how GRE Revised test really works. I previously posted the New GRE to Old GRE Score conversion Charts.

Now, I decided to educate more about the GRE Revised Test and how the scoring pattern works.
Structure of the GRE Revised Computer based test:















The Analytical Writing section will always be first, while the other five sections may appear in any order.

Understand the GRE Revised Test Design:

The GRE revised General Test design features advanced technology that allows you to freely move forward and backward throughout an entire section. Specific features include:
  • Preview and review capabilities within a section
  • A "mark and review" feature to tag questions, so you can skip and return later
  • The ability to change/edit answers within a section
  • An on-screen calculator for the Quantitative Reasoning section
  • New answer formats, including tasks such as numeric entry and highlighting a sentence in a passage to answer a question.

USCIS published its E-Verify's 'Commitment to Privacy' to take on the rumours

We knew that USCIS has made availble the E-Verify services to all states in U.S. No need to mention that it's a prestigious project from USCIS. Though, the poor efficiency of its website didn't attract the people much. The database didn't show up the employer's details after taking the social security numbers raised the doubts that USCIS may use the SSN's for its personal benefits.

 To break all those rumors, USCIS published E-Verify's Commitment to Privacy statement today. Read this here:

Flash News: Time to rethink. University of Florida announces it eliminates Computer Science Department

The University of Florida announced this last week that it was dropping its computer science department, which will allow it to save about $1.7 million.  The school is eliminating all funding for teaching assistants in computer science, cutting the graduate and research programs entirely, and moving the tattered remnants into other departments.

Let’s get this straight: in the midst of a technology revolution, with a shortage of engineers and computer scientists, UF decides to cut computer science completely?
      Students at UF have already organized protests, and have created a website dedicated to saving the CS department.  Several distinguished computer scientists have written to the president of UF to express their concerns, in very blunt terms. 

      Prof. Zvi Galil, Dean of Computing at Georgia Tech, is “amazed, shocked, and angered.”  Prof. S.N. Maheshwari, former Dean of Engineering at IIT Delhi, calls this move “outrageously wrong.”  Computer scientist Carl de Boor, a member of the National Academy of Sciences and winner of the 2003 National Medal of Science, asked the UF president “What were you thinking?”

      What ever, Im only concerned about the upcoming students planning to attend University of Florida. Folks, if you kept UF computer science as your only option, did take your visa interview you don't need to be panic. You can take visa interview with a different school i20 again. Let's look at the things how interesting they are going to be.
